Local Motion
Fall in Iowa is one of the best seasons for walking outside. There are milder temperatures, less humidity, and wonderful autumn leaves. One perfect walking destination is the library. We are centrally located; we have a drinking fountain if you arrive thirsty, and after you’ve loaded up on books, movies, and magazines your walk home is downhill. To encourage walking and library use we are starting a fall program called Local Motion. The way it works is that for each item you check out from September 15 to October 31 you will be given a ticket to fill out and drop in a box. If you walked to the library you will be given an additional 5 tickets. At the end of October we will draw the names of 10 lucky people who will receive a pedometer. So get up and get moving and experience some local motion.
Cellist Evan Drachman
Cellist Evan Drachman will perform at Heritage Hall in the Lisbon Public Library, Wednesday, September 22 at 7 p.m.
Mr. Drachman is increasingly sought-after both for his solo and chamber music performances, and as one of the most respected authorities on the presentation of live classical music for diverse audiences. He is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Piatigorsky Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to make live classical music a part of the fabric of everyday life, especially for communities who would otherwise not have the opportunity to hear it. The organization is named for Evan Drachman's grandfather, the cellist Gregor Piatigorsky. This free performance is sponsored by the Piatigorsky Foundation, and the Mount Vernon and Lisbon Public Libraries.

Young Adult Book Review
By Raina David
The Cabinet of Wonders by Marie Rutoski, set in 16th century Bohemia, is an imaginative book designed for those who enjoy fantasy and history combined. This story, however being thoroughly fictional, shows the reader a seemingly genuine world. It provides explanations that tie the magic to real-life, yet continues with the plot, keeping the reader’s interest. This book is an ideal read for those who also enjoy Harry Potter. The plot is model for all ages, and is one that everyone will love.
